A decision on Tesco’s plans for a multi-million pound expansion to its Station Road store has been delayed to allow planning committee members to inspect the site.
Harrow Council’s planning committee was due to consider the proposals for a much bigger Tesco Extra store at a meeting on Wednesday (December 14).
But councillors on the committee said they did not feel able to judge the plans without viewing the site.
Rayners Lane councillor Joyce Nickolay (Conservative) said she needed a site visit to gain a better understanding of the impact of the development on the surrounding area.
She said “a 12-minute presentation” by planning officers was not enough to make an informed decision on such a large-scale application.
Greenhill ward councillor Bill Philips (Labour) also backed a site visit. He said he knew the site very well as he lived nearby but added: “I accept others may not know it as well as I do.”
A decision on the plans will now be delayed until the New Year.
