Supermarket chain Tesco has gained planning permission to expand its store in Station Road.
Harrow Council’s planning committee approved plans to create a bigger Tesco Extra with a multi-storey car park and new shops and flats fronting Station Road at a meeting on January 18.
HCRA was among those who objected to the scheme because of the impact on traffic and the character of the area.
It was also feared a Tesco Extra, which will sell more items like TVs and fridges, could draw shoppers away from Harrow town centre.
As part of the plans, Tesco has promised to make improvements to the junction where Station Road meets Hindes Road and Woodlands Road.
Plans for a bigger Tesco store in Station Road will come before Harrow’s planning committee again on January 18.
The proposal for a larger Tesco Extra, including a multi-storey car park and new shops and flats along Station Road, was due to be considered by the committee before Christmas.
But councillors voted to postpone their deliberations in order to visit the site.
Many local residents and shops have objected to the multi-million pound expansion because of the impact on traffic and the character of the area.
HCRA is among local organisations that have voiced their concerns. The plans can be viewed at Harrow Council’s website here by typing the reference number P/0832/11 into the planning search facility.
Harrow residents can get career advice and find out about local employment opportunities at a jobs fair to be held at Harrow Civic Centre on January 18.
Exhibitors at the event, which runs from 11am to 3pm, will include Harrow Police, Olympic contractors, the Army and Crossrail.
There will also be the chance to find out about training with home care firm HDS Services, and courses at Stanmore and Harrow colleges.
