HCRA volunteers shift tonnes of junk

A team of residents helped clean up our neighbourhood by shifting truckloads of junk at HCRA’s Dump Run.

The event on Saturday, 23 April, saw volunteers clear mounds of fly-tipping and dispose of many unwanted items from people’s homes.

This included moving piles of rubbish that had been illegally dumped in the passage that runs between Rosslyn Crescent and Woodlands Road.

The event was supported by Harrow Council who supplied equipment and provided access to the dump.

HCRA hired a truck and borrowed a van from local businessman Paolo Arrigo who runs Franchi Seeds based at the Phoenix Business Centre in Rosslyn Crescent.

Residents provided refreshments to the volunteers who also picked up litter and cleared weeds.

The popular event is usually held every year but was put on hold due to Covid, which meant rubbish had mounted up.

The team continued working on Sunday to get rid of it all.

HCRA chair Brett Lake-Benson said: “The Dump Run was a real team effort and everyone worked really hard.

“A big thanks to everyone who took part, gave donations and supported the event.”

The next HCRA community event will be a street party in Rosslyn Crescent on Sunday, June 5, to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

DUMP RUN IS BACK!!

HCRA is once again offering residents the chance to get rid of unwanted junk with the return of its popular “dump run” event.

A team of volunteers will be collecting rubbish and ferrying it to the dump on Saturday, April 23.

The event, which is supported by Harrow Council, is a chance to have a good old clearout and dispose of bulky items that can be hard to get rid of if you don’t have your own transport.

The service is free although we will be collecting donations towards the hire of a tipper truck as well as annual subscriptions to HCRA, which cost just £3 per household per year.

Residents who wish to get rid of any junk are asked to leave it outside their properties – but NOT on the pavement – the night before the event or first thing in the morning.

We will be collecting rubbish between 9.30am and 3pm.

Please label items to be dumped and ensure any items you DON’T want us to take are also clearly labelled.

We are keen to recruit people to help out on the day, even just for a short time. If you are able to join in then the team will be meeting at 9am in Woodlands Road.

We cannot take commercial waste, rubble, car tyres, batteries, oil or hazardous materials.

If you have a particularly large or awkward item you want to dispose of then please call or message Sonia Moore in advance on 07516 402025 to see if we can help.
