Hundreds express concern about Tesco development

Hundreds of Harrow residents have signed a petition objecting to plans to build a tower block on top of a new Tesco store in Station Road.

The development – known as Greenmead Place – would create about 560 new homes on the site of the current Tesco store.

However, residents have raised concerns about the scale of the development, which will include a 15-storey tower block.

The proposals would see the size of Tesco shrink by 20% with the store spread over two floors. The amount of parking spaces for customers would reduce by 33%.

Local residents associations – including HCRA – have joined forces to protest against the plans.

Key concerns include the lack of truly affordable housing and the impact on local infrastructure, such as roads, public transport, schools and health services.

Nearly 1,500 people have so far signed a petition on the website change.org objecting to the development.

Tesco and developers Notting Hill Genesis have yet to submit a formal planning application to Harrow Council but this is expected to happen in early 2023.
